About the Program
Your child's development is an important aspect of the care they receive here at Wee Whales. During this critical period of their childhood, a sense of independence, healthy structure, and exposure to natural materials goes a long way.
My program incorporates the following:
-
Exposure to the Spanish Language - Speaking predominantly Spanish in the daycare with the children provides a unique opportunity for non-Spanish speakers to get exposure to a second language. At the same time, children who speak Spanish at home can also retain their language as well.
-
Play/Theme-Based Curriculum* - Every week, we cover a different theme that is incorporated into the different aspects of the daycare, such as the sensory activities, imagination area, books, toys, and activities.
-
Learning Through Play - Children are introduced to activities and toys that allow them to play in an open-ended way, and most toys and activities use natural materials and minimal plastic. We work with children on their different senses and areas of development through sensory activities, reading (and introduction to writing for preschoolers), gross- and fine-motor activities, to name a few.
*All children are exposed to a weekly theme. Children age 2 begin to follow part of the preschool curriculum that children ages 3 and up are following.
Meet the Owner
Hi! I'm Cyndi, founder of Wee Whales Home Daycare LLC. I was born in Lima, Peru, and came to the US in 2011. In 2013, I married Daniel, my now husband, and in 2019, we had our first child.
Starting my own home daycare was always a dream of mine. Throughout my experiences caring for children, I have taken that time building out the concept for my program. I began my journey here in the US in 2011 as an Au Pair, later on gathering experience as a nanny, tutor, and even a certified nursing assistant (CNA).
I have a Bachelor's Degree in Librarianship and Information Science from my home country. However, here in the U.S., I obtained my Certificate in Early Childhood Education at Montgomery College in Maryland. Before opening my program, I received my International Montessori Teaching Diploma from North American Montessori Center (NAMC). Finally, I am CPR/First Aid certified.
Being a native Spanish speaker, I strive to incorporate Spanish as a second language, and gearing my approach towards allowing children to learn though play as they develop their skills, independence, and learning that engages all of the child's senses.
Why Wee Whales?
When thinking of a name, the inspiration came to us for the daycare to be named Wee Whales. Whales have always been known as caring, powerful, and highly intelligent creatures.
In the same way, children have all the same qualities and more, when given the right resources and support. They are our "wee little whales!"
Finally, the orca whale is such an iconic whale that we had to make him our mascot!
Special Thanks
A lot of credit goes to my family for accomplishing my goal of starting my own daycare program.
-
To my mother, who runs a private school back in Peru and has always inspired me to be a business-oriented woman.
-
To my sisters for giving me feedback on my logo, who thought the orca needed to smile more!
-
We named our mascot "Oscar," after my late father whom I lost when I was a teenager.
-
I can't forget to thank my husband for his creativity, handiwork [he built this site!], and never-ending support.
-
And finally, to my daughter, who not only was my inspiration to start my home daycare, but also for reminding me all the time just how important my role is as a provider and a mother. Being a parent is not easy, and playing both the parent and provider role simultaneously is exceptionally challenging, but every happy, funny, or inspiring moment I experience in a given day is worth the hard work.
I owe much of what I've achieved to my family <3
